2022 Oenos Mittas Rosé, Amyntaio Greece
Oenos Mittas is a small winery based in Amyntaio, located in Northern Greece (Macedonia region). It’s a relatively young project, with a very young (27 year old) winemaker Johnny Mittas. The wines are known for natural, low-intervention wines—often unfiltered, unfined, and with minimal or no added sulfites.
The 2022 Rosé is 100% Xinomavro, grown in clay-sandy soils on 100 year old vines, at an altitude over 500 meters. The must remained in contact with the grape skins for 6 hours, followed by native fermentation. The wine matured for four months with fine wine lees in French oak and acacia barrels of 225 liters and was bottled unfined & unfiltered.
On the nose, it features dominant aromas of red fruits with hints of sweet tomato and sweet spices like cloves and cinnamon. The acidity is a key feature, accompanied by flavor notes of red bell pepper paste and sweet pumpkin. Ideal pairing with rich dishes and cold plates with fatty and creamy cheeses.
